ASAP Board of Anderson County Brings Early Christmas Gift

Christmas came early in Lawrenceburg on December 20th with a gift of saving lives being given to local first responders and law enforcement officials in Anderson County.

One hundred and twenty units of Naloxone/Narcan medicine that helps people overdosing on drugs was donated by the ASAP Board of Anderson County to city police, Sheriff’s office, and emergency medical services.  This was accomplished for one of the board’s goals, which is to assist in reducing loss of lives and preventing harm from opiate/heroin overdoses.

The gift of Naloxone/Narcan was made possible by a state harm reduction grant of $20,000 that was applied for in August of this year and awarded to the ASAP Board of Anderson County by the KY Justice and Public Safety Cabinet in Frankfort.

The grant was competitive for the board as other ASAP boards throughout the state also applied for the grant.  During the grant application, the board had several choices on how use grant funds.  A decision was made to begin a new ASAP project called “Rescue of a Lifetime” within the community, which would result in the board spending grant funding for purchasing and donating Naloxone/Narcan kits for first responders and law enforcement officials in Anderson County.

After being notified of the $20,000 grant award in late November, ASAP board members planned and hosted a ceremonious presentation of one-half of the Naloxone/Narcan kits, valued at $10,000, to representatives of Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, Lawrenceburg City Police, and Anderson County Emergency Medical Services.  The presentation took place in the office of County Judge Executive on December 20th.  The remaining half of the kits will be purchased and presented again in April 2018.  Anderson Apothecary of Lawrenceburg helped with the “Rescue of a Lifetime” project by supplying kits.
