Although it was a warm weekend, thousands of residents and visitors alike descended on Main Street and the surrounding area for the 2017 Anderson County Burgoo Festival.  There was lots of fun, food, games, and shopping for everyone.  There was even a handmade quilt show at the First Presbyterian Church.

The festival featured a number of competitions, with a few new ones this year.  Here are the results of some of the many held throughout the weekend:

The burgoo cookoff featured a strong competition like every year.  Darnell’s Old Tyme Burgoo took first place while Old Time was second and third was 502 Burgoo.

For the burgoo eating contest, Ben Carlson won first place, Forrest Kincaid took 2nd place, Noel Cotton was 3rd place.

The fastest kid in Anderson County was a fun competition for kids.  The winners of this competition was Tristan Johnson (5 and under), Jackson McEntyre (6-7 years old), Clayton Conway (8-9 years old), Caiden Spencer (10-12 years old).

The kid’s fishing tournament was new this year and was held at the county park on Saturday.  Kurt Cummins won first place and Forrest Kincaid was second.  Cabela’s provided prizes and Bojangle’s provided a free meal.

Children on Sunday also had a great time with the pedal tractor pull, sponsored by the Lawrenceburg Fire Department.  Lilly Peach (0-40lb class), Alaina Doss (41-60lb class), Jonathan Royalty (61-80lb class), and Anna Peach (81-100lb class) were the winners.  Helping with this event were volunteers from the fire department including fire chief Bobby Hume, Rex Riley, Tim Read, and Rusty Mullikin.

Motorcycle riders also had a chance for competition with a motorcycle show.  Darren Johnson with a Harley Davidson 2011 Street Glide took first place, Dudley Darnell Jr with a 2015 Ultra Limited Harley Davidson won second, and Bumpy Crawford with a 2017 Spyder RSS won third.

Stores and vendors were also competing during the festival.  Smokin Wheels BBQ won the Best BBQ Vendor and Tastefully Kentucky won the Best Decorated Store Window.
