ACHS Student Recognized for Winning Gold Medal at National FCCLA Event

An amazing Anderson County High School student was recognized last night at the Anderson County School board meeting for her hard work and dedication in bringing home a gold medal at the national 2017 Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference.

Hitting top scores at the regional and state competitions, Sophia Luna qualified to compete at the national FCCLA STAR events competition.  According to a press release from the Kentucky Department of Education, she joined with over 150 delegates from the state to compete against over 4,200 participants at Nashville, Tennessee.

The events allow students to develop a number of important skills like critical thinking, career preparation, character development and more.  They then present their college and career readiness to a panel of judges.

At national competition, Sophia earned a gold medal, the highest available honor, for the life event planning category.  “She did a great job representing ACHS and FCCLA and we’re so very, very proud of Sophia of all of her efforts and hard work,” Superintendent Sheila Mitchell said.
