Local Author, Ann Gabhart, to Thrill Readers with New Historical Novel

One of Anderson County’s most well known authors, Ann Gabhart, will be soon releasing a brand new book filled with history, adventure, and life saving medicine as she takes readers back in time to Appalachia in the 1940’s.

Ann, who has been writing since she was around 10 years old and has already published over 30 books, is returning to her roots with a new historical novel after finishing up her Hidden Springs mystery series.  She found great inspiration from the stories of help and survival in the mountains of eastern Kentucky.

Based around the Frontier Nursing Service out of Hyden, Kentucky, the novel titled “These Healing Hills,” takes readers through adventures of a newly recruited nurse-midwife as she helps many children and adults, providing life saving medicine.  With a horse and a dog, they travel from cabin to cabin with many hazards along with way.

The service, which was started by Mary Breckinridge in the 1930s, made a major impact on the lives of many in the area, which inspired Ann to create a story within this rich history.  Much of the history still remains in the area as the service continues to this day, providing medical treatments in areas where physicians aren’t available.

“I’m excited about this story,” Ann said as she explained that she will be holding a special demonstration on September 9th at Tastefully Kentucky on Main Street to launch her new book.  Called Breakfast with Ann, she will be signing books and talking about her inspirations and books along with a continental breakfast filled with muffins, biscuits, coffee, and more.

From 10am to 12pm, attendees will get to talk with Ann one on one as well as have a chance to win a book reader’s gift basket containing three of Ann’s books, chocolates, and more.  For more information about the event and to register, check out the event Facebook page.
