The Anderson County Relay for Life, held this past Friday evening, not only celebrated cancer survivors and caretakers, but also helped raise thousands of dollars to go to cancer research.

Located again at the Lawrenceburg Green, the annual relay has been a tradition in Anderson County.  Moved two years ago to the green from the Legion Park, the relay joined the Wheels of Time Cruise-in on Main Street as well as the Lawrenceburg Summer Concert Series on the Green, featuring the band Twist of Fate, for June.

Hundreds attended the relay where it was announced that over $6 million was raised last year from all the relays in the state.  And $5 million of that amount came back to fund cancer research grants at various research facilities in Kentucky.

For this year’s event in Anderson County, there was $7200 raised just from corporate sponsors.  Another $1000 was raised to help fund the survivor dinner held at the Anderson County Senior Center.  Many other organizations and volunteers helped coordinated the annual event.
