The City of Lawrenceburg today celebrated the official groundbreaking of the Alton Vacuum Sewer Replacement Project.

The vacuum sewer system was installed in the Alton area during the 1970’s.  Since that time, it has not provided reliable service.

Through the help of local officials from the city and state, the city was able to receive a $992,500 community development block grant and a loan for $1,125,649.50.

Pipe will be laid next week, and the city is extremely happy to finish the project. “This is a very exciting day for the city of Lawrenceburg. The project that we have been anticipating and needing for so long is finally coming to fruition,” Mayor Goodlett said.

The vacuum sewer will be replaced with a hybrid low pressure grinder pump and conventional gravity system.  It will eliminate the risk of the failing vacuum system for 201 Alton residents.
