New Location for Summer Food Program

The Anderson County Annual Summer Food Service Program has officially started at a new location, providing free breakfasts and lunches for all children of the county.

Director of programs and operations at Anderson County Schools, Ronnie Fields, explained that the program, which has been offering free meals for children for a number of years, has a goal to make sure all children are fed during the summer. “We want to make sure that every kid has the opportunity to have breakfast and lunch during the summer,” he said.

This year, the program will be stationed out of Saffell Street Elementary.  It is completely free and open to all children 18 years and younger and doesn’t require enrollment.  The meals offered will also include more flavorings as the program is not required to follow the stricter dietary guidelines of meals offered during the school year.

Meals are now being served through August 4th, and will be available everyday except May 29th and July 4th.  Breakfast is served from 8:30am to 9:30am and lunch from 11:15am to 12:45pm.
