The Anderson County Community Early Childhood Council will be hosting a fun night for all families with young children with lots of giveaways and free food.

Called “A Stroll Through the Park,” the event is designed to help bring up school readiness for young children.  According to the council, children that aren’t ready for Kindergarten have a much high risk for criminal and detrimental behavior later in life.

To help improve school readiness, the council has received grant funding to connect parents with various Anderson County childcare providers as well as give away readiness bags full of items to help parents prepare their children for school.  For the stroll event, 150 bags will be given away for families with children 3 years old and younger.

In addition to the bags, the event will bring together all of Anderson County’s childcare providers as well as many other various health and service providers including the Anderson County Health Department, WIC, Dr Lea Fowler, CASA, and more.  The childcare providers will be hosting fun, learning games for the children, while the others will be giving away various items.

The council will also be giving away a stroller, tricycle, and a bicycle and will be providing free hot dogs and chips.  Sparky the Fire Dog from the Anderson County Fire Department will also be present as well as live music.

The stroll will be held this Friday, May 12th, from 6:30pm to 8pm at the Anderson County Park near the extension office.
