In their annual celebration of Earth Day, Ace Hardware is once again offering free native trees today for the public to pick up and plant, with about double the amount of trees compared to last year.

Coordinated with the Anderson County Conservation District, the free tree giveaway has become a large hit.  According to Ace Hardware manager, Chris Dillon, they are offering five different species of trees this year: Paw Paw, White Pine, Sugar Maple, Silky Dog Wood, Willow Oak.  And, instead of 800 trees given away last year, they are giving away 1500.

Beverly McElwain, the conservation district’s director, explained that the junior conservation board made up of local high school students helped with the effort, bagging hundreds of trees for the giveaway. Both the district and Ace Hardware helped with the costs of the trees.
