New Anderson County Sheriff Joe Milam and a number of deputies along with officers from the Lawrenceburg Police Department helped around 40 children in need again this year with the annual Shop with a Cop program.  The program, which started in 2008, gives an opportunity for children in need a wonderful Christmas by raising funds and taking them to various local stores and restaurants for the day to buy them gifts and a meal.

This year, Sheriff Joe explained they were able to help around 40 children.  They started last night shopping for a number of children that couldn’t attend the event.  Then today, around 25 children teamed up with deputies to shop for Christmas gifts.  They also were able to help four or five from the Anderson County Adult Learning Center.

Donations to help the children came from various sources, according to Sheriff Joe.  From individuals to churches, the residents of the county helped tremendously.  “It’s the people of this county…They take care of the children,” Sheriff Joe said.

On one of the first stops, the children and deputies visited the new Shoe Sensation store at the Kroger Shopping Center.  The store helped with the event by giving discounts.
