Great Treat for the Holidays

Ciara Hyatt from Homemade Takeout, our food columnist, shared one of her favorite treats for the holidays:

The holidays are upon us! And all of the celebrations that will be taking place are a wonderful reason to get your favorite recipes out and enjoy food, family, and friends.

Each year, I try a few new recipes as well as my tried and true favorites. It’s a fun way to keep the nostalgia of holidays past as well as mix things up a bit with some new fun flavors. Over the next several weeks leading up to the holidays, I will be sharing some of my favorites.

We are celebrating my dad’s birthday today, so I am making one of his favorite meals along with his favorite desserts, Mini-Pecan Fillo Pies. These are perfect for the holidays but are also a simple and delicious treat for anytime of the year. Try them today and maybe they’ll be at your table for holiday seasons to come!

Mini-Pecan Fillo Pies:
2 tbsp butter, melted
2 eggs, beaten
4 tbsp light brown sugar
4 tbsp light corn syrup
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Pinch of salt
1 cup of pecans, roughly chopped
2 trays of Athens fillo shells (found in frozen food section)

Mix all ingredients together except pecans. Once everything is mixed, add pecans and stir.
Put a teaspoonful of mixture in each fillo shell and bake in preheated oven of 350 for 10-12 minutes until golden. Allow to cool. Enjoy!
