Governor Matt Bevin, Congressman Andy Barr, and the City of Lawrenceburg today announced receiving an almost million dollar grant to replace the failing Alton vacuum sewer.  Congregating on the Lawrenceburg Green, Mayor Goodlett, county officials, and dozens more were present for the announcement.

The vacuum sewer system was originally installed in the Alton area during the 1970s.  Since that time, it has not provided reliable service.  “It’s fair to say it pretty much sucked ever since,” Governor Bevin said.

According to Congressman Barr, the city reached out to him a few years ago to help apply for a community development block grant.  Through letter of support, they applied for the 2015 CDBG grant but didn’t receive it.  However, they reapplied this year and received a $992,500 grant for the $1.98 million project. “It’s been a long time coming,” Congressman Barr said.

Mayor Goodlett thanked everyone for the support and help with receiving the grant. “It’s truly a great day for everyone in Lawrenceburg and Anderson County,” he said.
