Students at Emma B Ward Elementary were in for a treat yesterday as twenty different professionals came to the school to not only talk about their own careers but also encourage the children to pursue their dreams.

School counselor, Marla Swartz, explained that career day is a special event held yearly to expose children to jobs they never thought existed. “We want to expose kids to the different careers that are out there and give them something to strive for,” she said.

Among the many professionals giving presentations was airline pilot, David Gossett.  He encouraged the children:  “I’m going to become what I want to become, whether it is an airline pilot or the engineer that designed those airplanes.”

Other presenters included local government officials like Mayor Goodlett and City Clerk Robbie Hume, children’s librarian Sherry Noon, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife officers, and many more.  Local businesses were also represented including Meredith Hyatt Lewis from the Lawrenceburg Academy of Performing Arts, Mark Luttrell and Jenny Harlow from Luttrell Concessions, Ciara Hyatt from Homemade Takeout, and Dr Arthur Pangemanan from Pangemanan Chiropractic.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the day as they learned what they could become when they grow up, according to teacher Tony Calvert.
