Yesterday, the community as a whole was thanked as part of a county wide community appreciation day.  Jacque Zeller, director of the Anderson County Adult Learning Center, along with others from the senior center, churches, and Walmart, came together to create an appreciation day where they served anyone who stopped by the senior center a free lunch.

Jacque explained that they wanted to have a way to thank everyone who has helped all of the causes around the county. “One of the things we wanted to do is appreciate all of that everyone is doing for us,” she said. So together with many volunteers from Walmart, the ladies group from First Christian who brought soup, Susan Franklin from Sand Spring Baptist Church who brought sandwiches, they served many residents.

It also served as a way to help increase more grant opportunities from Walmart. Mark Willard, assistant manager at Walmart, explained that the community grants the company offers is based on the number of volunteers at events who are Walmart employees.  He said that if they can reach 50 volunteers, the community would be eligible for $5000 in community grants.

Karen Crosby, a Walmart volunteer, thought the day was a great idea. “I think this is a good way to give back to the community especially for the senior citizens,” she said.
