Big Changes and Record Number of Vendors Planned for Burgoo

The Anderson County Burgoo Festival is just around the corner and a number of changes are planned for this year’s event.  Larry Simpson from the festival organization was at the Joint Lawrenceburg-Anderson County Tourism Board meeting yesterday highlighting what will be in store for this weekend’s events.

One of the biggest changes will be the shear number of vendors.  According to Larry, they have traveled to other festivals earlier in the year and recruited new vendors to attend the burgoo.  They ended up with a record breaking 82 booths this year. “This is the largest burgoo booth that we ever had,” he said.

There will also be quite a number of new events.  Saturday will feature various contests including ugly lamp, pumpkin decoration, and burgoo eating contests.  There will also be a number of demonstrations including fishing tips at Beaver Lake by Tyler Feaster, golf tips by Rocky Schooley, karate demonstration, a recognition of students and teachers, an Elvis tribute, and more.

The annual Battle of Dogwalk Civil War reenactment at the county park is also seeing an enhancement this year with new pyrotechnics that will mimic a cannonball hitting the ground.  There will also be a patriotic service to honor veterans.  On Sunday, there will be a motorcycle show.

Vendors will start to setup for the festival on Friday at 8am.  The organization of the food vendors behind Main Street will change this year, with all vendors on one side of the street to improve walking traffic flow.  Picnic tables will also be provided.
