Anderson County continues to make its mark and winning more archery and shooting sports competitions.  The Anderson 4H Shooting Sports Club was in Wilmore and Richmond last weekend to compete at the 2016 4H State Competition in shooting sports and won a number of awards.

Henry Thompson, the Anderson County Middle School student who has already won multiple awards in other archery competitions, took the individual state championship for the 12-14 year old Bare Bow division.  He was also apart of the Bare Bow team, which included Luke Slone, Jacob Newby, and Jonathan Richie, that won the team state championship for that division.

But that’s not all.  The older 15-18 year old group took three more team state championships, including the Bare Bow, Bow Hunter, and Target Bow divisions.  Makayela Lewis, Anna Rose, Michala Frederick, Ben Richie, Zach Toles, and Isaiah Caldwell all participated in one or more of the three teams.  (See below for full breakdown of scores.)

Coach David Frederick gave credit to Anderson County Schools for all the interest and great training provided to the students.  Since the schools use similar equipment, interested archers can join the 4H shooting club with little extra training.

Competing against over 70 counties and a 1000 archers, Coach Frederick is proud to see how Anderson County performed.  “Anderson County is becoming very good in terms of archery,” he said.  And these new wins will continue an already illustrious record with over a dozen team state championships and many individual ones in the past five years.

However, three members will be leaving the club this year as they have aged out of 4H.  We wish Michala Frederick, Ben Richie and Zach Toles well in their future adventures.
