The American Legion Park was bustling last night as APEX Ministries hosted their 5k run/walk in support of the LIGHT Center.  The run, called “This Little Light of Mine,” attracted a number of runners to help both organizations.

The LIGHT Center was originally created last year to not only help those in need find resources but also to help limit abuse of those resources.  Donna Crain Drury from the center was grateful for the support: “The volunteers and the board of directors of the LIGHT Center are very appreciative to the APEX Ministries for sponsoring this fundraising event.  Fifty percent of the proceeds will be going to the LIGHT Center that will enable us to help more people that are in need in the county.”

Leslie Hardin, health and wellness minister from APEX, explained that this was the first time they sponsored a 5k run where fifty percent of the proceeds went to a local charitable organization.  “We decided to do this for the LIGHT Center because they help so many people and have have helped a very good friend of mine.  We just want to give back,” Leslie said.

Mark Willard, assistant manager at Walmart, was also there giving water to the runners. “I’m just proud to be able to support this group and give them some water tonight.  I hope they raise a lot of money for the LIGHT Center, which is a great cause for Lawrenceburg,” he said.

The three winners of the run included 8 year old Konnor Ethington who took third place, Justin Tyler won second, and Daniel Stumph won first.  The runners, together, were able to raise a significant amount for the center.
