School Board Recognizes 2016 Retirees

At the monthly Anderson County School Board meeting last night, Superintendent Sheila Mitchell recognized twelve staff and faculty that are retiring this year (see below for full list).  “It is bitter sweet to say goodbye to each of you,” Sheila said. “We appreciate your service, your experience, and your knowledge, and we thank you for your love and dedication to our children.”

After wishing them a long and happy retirement, Sheila exemplified just how dedicated they were to their jobs. “Together, these ladies spent 273 years in public education,” Sheila said.

With a long round of applause, the retirees thanked the district and said their goodbyes.  Sam Blackburn said, “It’s been an absolute privilege to be part of the Anderson County family.”  Julie Milburn also added, “Being an Anderson County girl, this is home and the school system is home.  I’d fight anybody for it.”

State Representative James Tipton also presented the retirees with citations of appreciation.  “It’s always great to be in Anderson County.  I started last year to recognize people in the school system,” James said.

Sam Blackburn – 28 years in education in Anderson County.  Retired as an elementary teacher at Saffell Street Elementary.

Judith Harvey – 22 years in education and 10 in Anderson County.  Retired as a middle school year at ACMS.

Sandy Hendry – 32 years in education in Anderson County.  Retired as Instructional Coach at ACMS.

Diane Lutz- 30 years in education and 15.5 in Anderson County.  Retired as a special education teacher at Saffell Street Elementary.

Julie Milburn – 29 years in education in Anderson County.  Retired as a social students middle school teacher at ACMS.

Jane Thompson – 26 full time years in education in Anderson County.  Retired as an elementary teacher from Emma B. Ward Elementary.

Amy Tucker – 20 full time years in education in Anderson County.  Retired as an instructional assistant from Sparrow Early Childhood Center.

Diane Womack – 19 years in education in Anderson County. Retired as secretary at Robert B. Turner Elementary.

Minnie Young – 11 full time years in education in Anderson County in the transportation department.  Retired as a bus monitor.

Lisa Pass – 26 years in education and 10 in Anderson County.  Retired as special education teacher at Robert B. Turner Elementary.

Lorraine Coffman – 10 years in education in Anderson County in the transportation department. Retired as a bus driver.

Myrtle Purcell – Approximately 20 years of service in education in Anderson County. Retiring as an instructional assistant from Robert B. Turner.
