Before last night’s athletic banquets at the Christian Academy of Lawrenceburg, Brooklyn Carpenter, a senior from the school, held a signing event to celebrate the scholarships that she received.  Brooklyn, who won this year’s Distinguished Young Woman of Anderson County, applied for both academic and volleyball scholarships at the University of the Cumberlands and unexpectedly received both.  She will not only be attending the university but also be playing for their volleyball team.

Brooklyn said that the volleyball scholarship was a surprise and was extremely exciting.  Although the bulk of the scholarship funds came from her academics, she said her experience with playing the game has been a major help, learning to be apart of a team.

Her parents, Dale and Melissa Carpenter, were very proud of their daughter.  “She is always striving to do things that are pleasing to the Lord, and she strives to do her very best,” Melissa said.  Dale also thanked the Christian Academy for their teamwork, “The Christian Academy is a great team of teachers and parents.”
