Mail Carriers To Help Food Pantry This Saturday

This Saturday, USPS mail carriers across the nation will be participating in the 24th annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.  Here in Lawrenceburg, mail carriers all around the county will be picking up donations left at mail boxes.

According to city carrier, Jacob McNaghten, the food drive is a tradition in Anderson County where all the donations will go to the Open Hands Food Pantry here in Lawrenceburg.  However, during his time working at the post office, he has seen a reduction of donations.  They are hoping for a better turnout this year.

Residents can place non perishable food donations in a paper or plastic shopping bag either on or near their mailboxes for the carriers to pick up.  The carriers will then bring it to the post office to be weighed and then the food pantry will transport the donations to the pantry to be distributed to those in need.  “That is what a community is all about; helping each other out,” Jacob said.
