New Location for Relay, Hopes to Draw Large Crowd

A new location is planned for the annual Anderson County Relay for Life. Downtown Lawrenceburg was chosen as the new location for the Relay this coming Friday night.  Kim Jennings, the local Relay event chair person, said that the Relay was moved to the Lawrenceburg Green behind Main Street as a way to bring more activity to the downtown area as well as bring more awareness to the cancer fundraiser.

With the Wheels of Time Cruise In also occurring on the same night directly on Main Street, Kim hopes that both activities will see an even larger turnout than normal. “We would like for everyone to come out that night and to share in the festivities with the car show and Relay for Life and to see what Relay is all about,” she said.

Besides being a fundraiser to help fight cancer through research, the Relay has also been an integral way for cancer survivors and those struggling with the disease to show support for each other. Kim, who has been volunteering for the cause for 5 years after losing her mother to leukemia, said that she has been working with cancer survivors and meeting new people that are battling cancer each year.

The Relay will start on the Lawrenceburg Green this year at 6pm and will go to 11pm.  It will feature a band, called the Dynamos.  “We hope that this year will be a big event,” Kim said.
