New Church to Open Downtown with Community Dedication

Nathan Mowery

With downtown continuing to improve, a new church has decided to open its doors just walking distance from Main Street.  Faith Bible Baptist Church will be holding its first service this Sunday, April 24th, at the building behind Scott Brown’s Karate Academy on East Woodford Street.  Pastored by Nathan Mowery, the new church has large ambitions to help the community and beyond.

Nathan, who became a Christian at 10 years old, developed a heart for God through his teenage years.  When he turned 18, he started feeling the call to preach and by 25, he enrolled at the Commonwealth Baptist College in Lexington.  Graduating in 2010, he became an assistant pastor at a church in Knoxville, Tennessee, for a few years, and then pastored a mission church in Ohio for a time afterwards.

But he felt the call to start a church of his own somewhere in Kentucky.  Working with Dr Jeff Fugate from Clays Mill Road Baptist Church in Lexington, he began looking around at different communities in the area, seeing which city would be best.  While visiting Lawrenceburg, he began talking with a resident here who was interested in what Nathan had to say.  Asking where his church was so he could attend, Nathan knew that was a sign and chose Lawrenceburg to start the church.

With financial help from Dr Fugate and his church, Nathan and his wife, Sarah, started organizing the new Faith Bible Baptist Church.  Although they are only planning a single 11am service for now, they are planning for more later on as the church grows.  They are also looking to start a youth and child ministry and even a bus ministry to help those who can’t drive to attend.  They’re even looking into maybe one day starting a Christian radio station and a children’s orphanage.
