Making a Dream Come True

In this day of easy transportation, it’s hard to think that someone near the end of life never saw the ocean.  But a number of residents at Heritage Hall have never been to the beach, and the staff and owners of the nursing home are looking to help realize this dream for two residents this fall.

Misty Montgomery, the activities director at the home, said they are wanting to send two residents to Virginia Beach for four days and three nights starting on September 26th.  She said this is the first time the nursing home will be organizing a vacation for residents.

To help raise funds to make this trip happen, Misty is accepting donations for a yard sale they will be having in May (no clothes needed).  They will also be setting up a sponsorship program where local businesses can sponsor the trip and have their logo installed on a sign that will be put out in the front of the building.

She said that they need to raise about $5,000 for the trip.  The company that owns the nursing home is paying for the staff needed for the trip, and the staff at the home have already done raffles to raise funds.  They are also planning other fundraising events later in the year.

To donate items for the yard sale or to find out more about sponsorship, you can contact Misty at 839-7246.
