The Anderson County School Board held their monthly meeting last night and honored a number of students and teachers.  First, students from the elementary schools and middle school chorus programs were recognized for making all-state choir (see list of names below).

Then, six teachers were awarded the 2015-16 teacher of the year award, including Dawn Royalty, reading intervention teacher from Sparrow Early Childhood Center, Melody Stephens, 5th grade social studies teacher from Emma B Ward, Tammy Neurhor, special education teacher from Robert B Turner, Erin Woods, 4th grade science teacher from Saffell Street Elementary, Natalie Fasure, STEM teacher from the middle school, and Lauren Vasser, social studies teacher from the high school.

The meeting then continued on to discuss various topics.  The board was informed by the district’s attorney, Bob Chenoweth, that the district now currently owns the old Glensboro School House that is in front of the high school.  The school house was originally owned by the organization that moved and restored the building years ago.  However, because the organization has mostly disbanded, the district has gained ownership due to abandonment.  The school board made a motion to surplus the property and instructed Superintended Sheila Mitchell to notify KDE for approval.

Further items were approved including the Anderson County Certified Evaluation Plan which eliminated the proficiency goal from the plan for the 2016-17 school year and received a number of improvement plans for some of the schools in the district.  They also approved a number of purchases, trip requests, fundraisers, and emergency certified and substitute teachers for the next school year.
