AC School Board Recognizes All State and District Choir and Band Members

Last night, the Anderson County School Board held their monthly meeting and started it with a number of great recognitions.  Both the high school chorus and band were at Louisville a time ago auditioning for all state chorus and band.  Superintendent Sheila Mitchell recognized an amazing 11 members of the ACHS Choir who were chosen for all state.  Sue Smith, director of the ACHS Choir, also mentioned that during the all state auditions, there were talent show auditions and Kenzie Trent was chosen to be a part of it.  See below for a full list of recognitions.

For the band, 17 members of the middle and high school band made all district while three were chosen for all state.  According to band director, Patrick Brady, having three band members be chosen for all state is incredibly impressive.  “Most schools that are double or triple our size are lucky to get three or four,” Patrick said.  Then, after the recognitions, the three all state members gave great performances for the board and audience.

Afterwards, Patrick addressed the school board about a problem that is currently growing with the band.  As the band continues to place well in the state finals, it’s becoming more and more popular with more students wanting to join.  With more students gaining interest in the band, Patrick is finding that he is running short of instruments at both the middle and high schools.  And, some of the instruments the school does have are also barely operable and with a few even fixed with tape and glue.  The board was concerned with the situation and will be looking further into it.

The board then moved forward with updates from Sparrow Early Childhood Center Principal, Janice Meredith, and ACHS Principal, Chris Glass, giving updates on the comprehensive school improvement plan for each school including goals and updated data to show their progress.  The board also approved multiple requests, including $1500 for Project Graduation along with a $750 fundraising match, KDE SFCC offer of assistance of $24,797 for future construction, fundraisers for Robert B Turner and Saffell Street Elementary Schools, and allowing the Dance Team to attend a competition in Nashville on February 21st.  The meeting the adjourned after a number of other approvals.
