Walmart Donates $5000 to Local Veterans Club

The Lawrenceburg Chapter of the Defining Forces Veterans Club continues today in their mission to help veterans and active duty service members after giving gift baskets to veterans at Heritage Hall yesterday.  At around 1pm, they received a $5000 donation from Walmart to help with one of their main missions: to bring active duty service members home for Christmas.

According to club members, they received a $1000 donation last year from Walmart, but this year Walmart wanted to participate more.  To qualify for the higher donation amount, the club had to have 50 or more volunteers for their Soldier’s Christmas benefit ride held at the Legion Park.  The ride is held on the second Saturday of September with live music, food, silent/live auctions, and more to help veterans.  And for this past year’s event, they more than qualified, easily breaking 50 volunteer milestone.

Members of the club said they will be helping 3-4 local vets come home this holiday season and a number more vets across the country, bringing the total to around 10-15.  Presenting the check is Walmart general manager, Shannon Willoughby, to club member Steve Meyer.
