Anderson County Unit 34 of the American Legion Auxiliary sponsored a very moving and touching service yesterday dedicated to honoring all of our military veterans and families.  A number of veterans attended the service along with many local residents, filling the hall.  Pam Brough, president of our local unit, opened and hosted the service.  The service included a number of prayers, recognition of the local politicians present, a moving speech by Captain Joshua Witt of the Kentucky National Guard, recognition of all prisoners of war and those missing in action by Bill Sloan and Bobby Cubert, and a very thankful and honoring poem by Nettie Halvorson.

In addition, there were a number of other recognitions.  Shirley Thornberry presented a book to Alvin and Oneita Perry chronicling Alvin’s service to the country.  Unit 34 was also honored by the president of the Legion with a rare award for conducting the best innovative programs to help support military children.

After the service, meals were provided to all those in attendance at the Legion Hall.  A number of local churches and the Commonwealth Credit Union helped provide the meals and desserts.  The credit union also provided gifts and volunteer help to organize the event.
