Teachers Recognized As Best in Anderson During Board of Ed Meeting

The Anderson County Board of Education met last night for their monthly meeting.  They started the meeting by recognizing three teachers as Teachers of the Year.  Congratulations go to third grade teacher Matt Ogden of Emma B Ward Elementary, language arts teacher Crystal Graham of the middle school, and Spanish teacher Brittany Baxter of the high school.  Anissa Davis was also recognized for achieving her doctorate degree from the University of the Cumberlands.

The meeting then moved to introducing the new finance officer for the school board, David Wilkerson, who was the finance officer for the county from 1999-2002.  The board then announced a letter from the Executive Director of the Kentucky School Board Association recognizing the students from Robert B Turner that sang for the KSBA meeting as well as the staff for the great meeting. Sheila Mitchell, Anderson County Superintendent, also recognized a number of people that helped make the event a success.

The board then approved the senior class trip to New York as well as a stipend increase for the energy manager due to in part of KSBA agreeing to pay for half of the manager’s salary and performance of the energy savings.  They also approved requests for early graduations, a number of trip requests, and two fundraiser requests.

The board was also updated on student enrollment.  Current enrollment for the county is dropping slightly over the past five years mostly due to the drop of younger families moving to Anderson County because of lack of employment and an increase of retirement age residents.

Special Education Director Beth Morgan-Cook also requested approval for a visual impaired teacher contract which would be shared with Woodford County.  The agreement would serve our county as well as Woodford County for 16 hours a week.  The board approved the agreement.
