The LIGHT Center, an organization based on helping those in need to find charities, just recently received a large donation of food from the Dollar Tree which is located next to Tractor Supply.  All the Dollar Trees, including our local store, across the nation partnered with Feeding America to help encourage customers and residents to donate food for families in need.  Tonya Robertson, general manager at the local Dollar Tree, said that normally they send all the donated items to God’s Pantry in Lexington but instead decided to keep it local.  After a quick search, they found the LIGHT Center and donated over 1300 items of food to them.

LIGHT Center Treasurer Marilyn Darnell Proctor and a crew of volunteers helped with the large donation.  They sorted and categorized it all and then started planning on how to distribute it.  They first called some of the local churches which led to getting in contact with the Backpack Buddies Program, which helps feed children in need.  After the Backpack Buddies program received what they needed, the center decided to then create gift food boxes to help local residents in need and donated the rest to the Anderson County Senior Center to help seniors in need.
