Anderson County Conservation District Moves and Reopens

Beverly McElwain

The Anderson County Soil Conservation District has just recently moved from their old location on Woodford Street to their new one next to KORT by the Kroger shopping center.  Currently run by Beverly McElwain, the conservation district has been instrumental in helping the environment here in Anderson County through their work with the divisions of water and forestry, the extension office, and also by providing native tree seedlings to Ace Hardware to give away on Earth Day.

But, they do much more for the community.  One of the ways they help is to get state and federal funding for local farmers.  They also, along with Kentucky Farm Bureau, sponsor a great art and writing contest for students in the county.  Winners of the contests get cash prizes and a chance to then compete at the state level.
