Local Girl Will Sing National Anthem at Keeneland

A very special honor has been given to one of Lawrenceburg’s children.  Lauren Wash, just 11 years old, competed for one of only ten spots to sing the national anthem at Keeneland.  After two video auditions, Lauren made the top ten and will be singing at Keeneland on October 11th.

Although she’s only 11 years old, she’s already had considerable experience singing.  According to her mother, Adrienne, Lauren was singing in her crib while still a young child.  As she got older, she followed her father, Ben, who has been writing his own music for many years.  According to Adrienne, Lauren has also been doing musical theater for the past year and a half with plays like the Sound of Music and Mary Poppins where she had to learn 14 songs.

With all this musical experience, a friend of the family heard that Keeneland was having a competition to sing the national anthem and suggested that Lauren try it.  So she sang the anthem at home in front of a camera and sent the video in.  She easily made the top 30 against many competitors, including adults and professional singers from around the region and nation.  Keeneland then asked for a second audition video, and she got into the top ten.  This guaranteed her a spot to sing at Keeneland on October 11th to compete for the next competition.  Keeneland representatives will be recording the ten contestants and will let the public vote for the best singer who will then sing the anthem for the Prelude for the Breeder’s Cup.

Lauren will also be singing the national anthem on October 9th on Main Street for the Wheels of Time Car Show in honor of Jimmy Walker who was the president of the car club who recently passed away.  You can also watch Lauren sing the national anthem at the last Wheels of Time Car Show here.

We wish her much luck and hope she is chosen as the top singer.
