Store Celebrating 50th Year at One Location

Mildred Cox Hodson

Located near the intersection of Main and Woodford Streets, there’s a store that has been in operation at that location for 50 years.  The Mrs. Cox Shop has been a tradition here in Lawrenceburg, selling middle of the line quality women’s clothing and some gifts, handbags, greeting cards and more.

Owned and operated by Mildred Cox Hodson, the store is built on family.  Her father owned and operated a couple of stores around the county before devoting his life to be the county executive judge.  When he passed away, her mother, Leva Hawkins Cox decided to open a store in 1944, right in the middle of World War 2.  The store was moved to a couple of different locations on and around Main Street before settling in at 103 South Main Street in 1965.

During the years, Mildred’s mother got help from her sister and sister-n-law, while she attended high school and college.  When her sister-n-law decided to get out of the business, she joined forces with her sister and stayed there till this day.

So if you’re looking for some quality clothing at good pricing, check out one of the oldest family run retail stores here in Lawrenceburg.  The Mrs. Cox Shop is open Monday through Saturday, 10am-5pm.
