National Cheese Pizza Day at Pizza Hut

Today is National Cheese Pizza Day. Started out in Ancient Greece, pizza was created when the Greeks took their bread and added oils, herbs and cheese to it. Later the Romans took dough and topped it with cheese, honey and bay leaves. Our modern day pizza originally began in Italy as the Neapolitan flatbread which used only mozzarella cheese. Pizza eventually came overseas to the United States by Italian immigrants during the later part of the nineteenth century, and the first pizzeria, Lombardi’s, was opened in 1905 in New York’s Little Italy. Today, pizza has become extremely popular with an estimated thirteen percent of the U. S. population eating pizza each day.

For National Cheese Pizza Day, we asked everyone on Facebook who made the best pizza in Lawrenceburg. We had lots of votes for many of the pizza restaurants that are currently here and even a few that are no longer in Lawrenceburg, but the winner that got the most votes was Pizza Hut. Built in 1982, the Lawrenceburg Pizza Hut has been serving our community with delicious pizza for many years. The general manager, David Doss, has been running this restaurant since the day it opened. Here is a photo of David along with one of the employees, Samantha Jones. Stop by today enjoy some delicious pizza.
