County Board of Ed Approves Tax Increase and Fundraiser

acschoolsThe Anderson County Board of Education meeting was held last night with a number of items on the agenda.  They recognized 14 teachers and staff that have retired between 2014 and 2015, with a full list below.  The board also approved the Bearcat Pride group to do a fundraiser for the entry of the football field.  Called “Paving the Way at ACHS,” the group will be purchasing bricks with sponsored names on them which will be laid in the entryway.  Finally, the board approved a very small compensating tax increase of .1 cent per $100 of valuation on real estate and personal property, going from 58.5 cents to 58.6 cents.  The Vehicle/Watercraft and Utility rate remained the same at 51.3 cents.

 

Here is a full list of the retiring teachers and staff:

Mrs. Lynn Akins is retiring with 27 years of service in education in Anderson County.  She retired as a kindergarten teacher at Robert B. Turner Elementary.

Mrs. Ann Asbury is retiring with 27 years of service in education in Anderson County. She retired as an Adult Education teacher.

Mrs. Billie Baxter is retiring with 18 years of service and 16.5 years in Anderson County.  She retired as an Instructional Assistant at Emma B. Ward Elementary.

Mrs. Natalie Brown is retiring with 27 years of service in education in Anderson County.  She retired as a kindergarten teacher at Sparrow Early Childhood Center.

Mrs. Becky Drury is retiring with 32 years of service in education in Anderson County. She retired as a second grade teacher at Saffell Street Elementary.

Mrs. Jenny Gaines is retiring with 25 years of service in education in Anderson County.  She retired as an instructional assistant at Robert B. Turner Elementary in Mrs. Lynn Akins classroom.

Mr. Church Lawson is retiring with approximately 17 years of service in education in Anderson County. He retired as Bus Driver in the transportation department.

Mrs. Wanda Murphy is retiring with 21.5 years of service in education in Anderson County. She retired as a Bus Driver in the transportation department.

Mrs. Judy Regan is retiring with 16 years of service in education in Anderson County.  She retired as an Instructional Assistant at Emma B. Ward Elementary.

Mr. Jerry Shaw is retiring with 9 years of service in education in Anderson County.  He is retiring as the Adult Education Director at the ACE Center.

Mrs. Cindy Shyrock is retiring with 23 years of service in education in Anderson County.  She is retiring as a Special Education teacher at Anderson County Middle School.

Mr. Billy Squires is retiring with 9 years of service in education and 8 years in Anderson County.  He retired as the Phoenix Academy Off Campus Suspension teacher.

Mrs. Barbara Sutherland is retiring with 26 years of service in education in Anderson County.  She is retiring as the Certified Payroll Clerk II at the Anderson County Board of Education.

Mr. Jim Tyler is retiring with 27 years of service in education and 10 in Anderson County.  He is retiring as the Anderson County Middle School Math Lab teacher.
